The Beginning of new seasons: Schools and Colleges begin again, as others do in there own way

The new academic calenders are beginning in the area, as elementary, middle/junior, high schools, colleges and universities welcome students back for the 2012-13 year.

For some, there will be new beginnings and others will return to the same school they have been attending.  We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable academic year.

We had an enjoyable Summer personally, with a trip to the Black Hills and Badlands of South Dakota, back in July, during the July 4Th Holiday.

We have customers and neighbors that will be wrapping up Ramadan this weekend. Thank you for the cards and communications.

"We are to make peace with those who have wronged us, strengthen ties with family and friends, do away with bad habits -- essentially to clean up our lives, our thoughts, and our feelings." - What is Ramadan?

While it doesn't fully explain an other's culture. Coming from my own Czech culture partially, it is always good advice to get back to the basics and put away bad habits.

We want to thank our customers.  We want to welcome back both new and old customers to Tucker Manufacturing Co., Inc.  We look forward to working with you in the coming years ...

Our oldest local customer was in for a new Tucker Brush this week

We hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day holiday weekend.  We enjoyed the three days away from the office.  Time to enjoy with friends and family...

This morning, the Tuesday, after Memorial Day, our oldest local customer came in to order a new 12 AT brush (pictured above).  It's not every day, when you have an opportunity to greet a customer who has been using our equipment for over 50-55 years.  He was thinking it was back in the 1950s.

He needed a new Tucker brush to clean his automobile.  His original brush cracked and he needed to be replaced.

Gene will turn 99 years old this year.  He and his wife have been married 76 years.  He continues to mow his own lawn, but he did give up mowing and fertilizing his neighbors yard a couple of years ago.

He mentioned today that he has bought our equipment for four locations over the years.  Gene is retired from the automotive and recreational vehicle trade.  He was telling about his adult children.  He mentioned some of them are retired now, as well.

We are excited about a possible new prospect from the Country of Botswana this week.  Over the years, we have enjoyed doing business in Nigeria, Egypt and other African nations.  Through FedEx, we ship to over 25 different foreign locations.

One real strong market presently for the Tucker Pole is the Country Canada.  Whether it be the in-house professional at an educational institution or the contract professional for a window cleaning company, the Tucker Pole is a popular way to reach, wash and clean windows and other exterior surfaces.

Enjoying a 3-Day weekend as the Memorial Day Holiday kicks off May 26-28th

Tucker Manufacturing Co., Inc. will be closed May 26th-28th in observance of Memorial Day weekend in the United States.  We want to wish our customers, vendors and friends a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day Holiday.  Our offices will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 29th.

If you haven't visited us on Facebook or Twitter, we invite you to Like or Follow.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to those serving in our nation's Armed Forces, as we pay our respects and offer in memorial those who have died in service to our nation and our loved ones who are no longer with us today.

In 1915, inspired by the poem "In Flanders Fields," Moina Michael replied with her own poem:

We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led,
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies.

Again, we wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day 2012 ...

Robin Tucker appointed to serve on Civil Rights Commission for the City of Cedar Rapids

On January 10Th, Mayor Ron Corbett with the consent of the City Council appointed Robin Tucker and Anne Pham to the eleven member Civil Rights Commission for the City of Cedar Rapids. Tucker and Pham will fill two vacancies on the Commission through June 30, 2013.

The Commission is made up of eleven volunteer members, who are appointed by the Mayor for three-year terms, comprise the Cedar Rapids Civil Rights Commission. Each member may serve two consecutive three-year terms. This is a policy-making body which directs the Commission staff. Commissioners are also involved in revising the local civil rights ordinance and assist staff members in their efforts to enforce these laws. The Commission annually elects a Chair and a Vice-Chair. Regularly scheduled meetings take place on the 3rd Wednesday of each month.

I.L. 'Tommy' Tucker, proudly served on the original Commission or Committee on Human/Civil Rights for the City of Cedar Rapids. He served for approximately 32 years and was recognized by the Commission for his past service on July 15, 2011 at a Cedar Rapids Kernals game, where he was asked to throw out the first pitch. (Pictured are LaVerne and Tommy Tucker of Tucker Manufacturing Co., Inc., with our City's Civil Rights Director Karl Cassell, along with Tommy throwing out the first pitch).

We believe strongly in the tradition of Equal Opportunity in employment, housing, education, public accommodations and credit in our community. "Like my father, I look forward to paying my civic rent in service to the Commission for the next 18 months," said Robin Tucker.

This Monday, January 16Th, our Nation and community will celebrate the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Holiday. Robin Tucker is scheduled to attend both the 26Th Annual Remembering Martin Luncheon at the Hotel at Kirkwood at 11 a.m., as well as the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration on Monday evening at St. Paul's UMC at 7 p.m. The evening event is open to the public and there is no charge attend, though a free will offering is taken.
