We invite you to make the Tucker Pole part of your New Year's Resolutions

Today's reflection:

LaVerne Tucker, Robin's mother and Tommy's wife, has always been a strong believer in New Year's Resolutions. As she raised her three children, LaVerne would often request New Year's Resolutions from all her guests during the family's New Year's Day dinner that she often hosts.

To break the ice, she would give a piece of paper to all her guests with the following writing on it written straight down the left side of the 8-1/2 x 11 sheet of paper...

H

N

Y
e
a
r

Using the beginning letter, the guest can make a New Year's Resolution statement for each letter, by creating a sentence using each beginning letter for each resolution. By the way, she often would do the same for Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas at other holiday events that LaVerne has hosted over the years. A mother's tradition of New Year's Resolutions and Holiday cheer... one of the many Tucker family traditions celebrated over the years.

Making New Year's Resolutions is healthy, whether one is either formal or informal about it. We encourage you to make your own New Year's Resolutions for 2009. We invite you to make the Tucker Pole a part of your New Year Resolutions. We want to thank our customers for their business in 2008 and previous years.

In 2009, Tucker Manufacturing Co., Inc. will celebrate our 45Th anniversary of our business relationship with our Japanese Distributor, Zaoh Company, Ltd. of Tokyo, Japan. We have much to be thankful over the years and we look forward to the New Year of 2009.

On behalf of everyone at Tucker Manufacturing Co., Inc., of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, we wish you and those close to you, a Happy New Year and the very best in the coming year.

Respectfully submitted by Robin Tucker.

The Need for Water around the World

For window cleaning, waterfed pole users want spot free water for the highest quality results. But, for many around the world pure water has a real different meaning. Pure Water For the World is one of the many causes that Rotary International is taking on, in addition to the Polio Plus campaign.

Tommy Tucker is a 2ND generation Rotarian and will celebrate his 45Th year as a Rotarian in 2009, while Robin Tucker is a 3rd generation Rotarian and will celebrate his 20Th year next year. The 100Th Anniversary Convention of Rotary International in 2005 really pointed out the concerns of the lack of pure (potable) water around the world for drinking and cleaning. Both Tommy and Robin had the pleasure of attending the world Rotary International Convention in the Chicago in 2005.

Today, we received the following e-mail from a window washer, Colm Fitzgerald, who wanted to share his message on a water charity they are supporting this year...

Lately, the buzz associated with the Internet is social networking sites. It's not just for personal networking anymore. I was at my local Rotary Club meeting today and the Editor of the local newspaper in Cedar Rapids, The Gazette, commented about twitter.com. Taking the Tucker Pole out of the Closet

So, is there something back behind that vacuum or other cleaning tools and supplies?

Over the years, we hear the similar story. We found a Tucker Pole in one of our closets.
"While cleaning our supply closet we recently unearthed one of your
telescoping window-cleaning poles. It is one of the gold models, extends
to 45 feet and does not include the valve controls on the pole itself. We
are relatively sure how to work the device but we misplaced the directions.
It
would be wonderful if you could email or send us a copy."
- Anna from
Small College in
GA
We received a telephone call recently from a hospital out west. They wanted to get back to using their Tucker Poles to help lower their window cleaning budget. During the good budget years, his predecessor outsourced the window cleaning, but now as his replacement, he plans to bring his window cleaning back in-house, so they are bringing the Tucker Poles out as well.

The story isn't new over the years here at Tucker.

The Election of 2008: Presidential Race

Polls are closing in most of the United States, but the early numbers appear strong that Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) will become the 44th President of the United States of America.

It doesn't appear to be a Truman moment for Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) in 2008. More on the 1948 election. By the way, I share a birth date with former president Harry S Truman, who hailed from Independence, Missouri.

The last week of October 2008...

Well, the kids are likely getting excited for Halloween on the 31st all around the USA.

What tricks or treats do we have for you the last week of October 2008?

Well, we invite you the check out the various models of Tucker Pole to lower your exposure on the ladder, while cleaning exterior windows and other surfaces.

Suggestion on how to re-slot your Tucker Pole in the field... check out this YouTube - Fixing a Tucker Pole.

Take a look at this guy using a 40ADH Tucker Pole with a spot free water rinse. He is showing off his techniques with his Tucker Pole connected to one of the variety of ways to obtain "spot free" water.

Using a water fed pole does take skill. We have been providing a quality product for over 50 years. We find a variety of window cleaners, building service contractors and in-house professionals who find our products a useful tool for their facilities. Here is a Tucker Pole being walked up for use, by a Tucker Pole user
.
We want to wish you a great week! If we can be of service, please contact us. Want to share some news on your Tucker Pole or your business, please let us know.

Friday, October 24, 2008

What do customers have to say?

All water fed poles require maintenance. A group of window cleaners were going back and forth about a broken wfp, when we discovered a recent comment by the following window cleaner:

I've had a Tucker pole for 30 years and never had a problem. The only thing
that breaks is the brush but if you get a brush with the foam middle that
problem will basically stop unless your letting the pole drop than anything will
break . The carbon ones will shatter. Why is your pole dropping? You should walk
it up and down just like a ladder.

SG, a professional window cleaner from
Carpentersville, IL replied

Equipment can break down for a variety of reasons. One important point that the window cleaner from Illinois points out: the importance of walking the Tucker Pole up and down like an extension ladder.

As our blog has mentioned before, we offer replacement parts for the various models of Tucker Pole. Let us know, if we can be of service to you.

How can we help you today? Some banks may be closed and some schools are letting out early, but we are open for business today, like most Monday through Friday's, from 8:30 am to 5 pm Central Time in the USA.

Basic Water Fed Pole set up for Tucker or any WFP

1. Access to a water faucet... unless you are in Europe or a facility location that doesn't have adequate water pressure or a water faucet, you are one step closer to using a Tucker Pole.

2. Is your water hard? If you throw water on a clean mirror and walk away... does it leave spots? A DI tank or other water treatment options can remove the problem. Getting started can be cost effective and allow your water fed business to grow with you. Water treatment doesn't have to be complicated.

3. The right model for the job you need to perform. The Tucker Pole hooks up to a standard garden hose, so if you have access to a water faucet, garden hose, and your right model of Tucker Pole, you may be ready to roll in cleaning windows and other surfaces. If spotting is a problem, see #2.

We often notice in our industry, people are making use of a water fed pole more complicated than it needs to be. Please let us know, if we can be of service to you with your water fed pole questions or comments.

A handy way to process a Tucker Pole order: Drop shipment

Our products are often drop shipped to customers, especially when it is a 12 foot Tucker® Pole model. Distributors can take advantage of our drop shipment services. Historically, it has been the most popular way to expedite a Tucker Pole shipment.

Today, we shipped an order for the United Kingdom via drop shipment per the request of our authorized distributor for the UK. Whether it is big or small, a drop shipment is often the most time effective and hassle free way to deliver our products.

If you have a customer or end user needing a Tucker Pole, we have drop shipped our products routinely to over 25 different counties.

Contact customer service for assistance, thank you.

Window and Surface Cleaning with the Tucker Pole

Customers and end users don't just have windows to clean; and the Tucker Pole isn't just a window washer.
A Tucker Pole is used on windows and glass, and of course solar panels need cleaning as well.
Like the greenhouse being cleaned in Cedar Rapids, Iowa or the solar panels and windows that require cleaning in Napa, California... window washing and surface cleaning can be assisted with the right method, assessors and brush(s) for the Tucker Pole.
We thank those facility managers and directors of buildings and grounds that use our products at their facilities here in Iowa and wherever they may be. From California to Maine... we go to great lengths!

Ken in the plant and Larry in customer service celebrated there birthdays this week. Larry is 21 on the 21st... lol!

How long will my Tucker Pole last?

We received an e-mail today from a customer in Maine. They indicated that needed to replace a Tucker Pole and requested a quote.

"price for a 45B B-METHOD including shipping to portland maine 04103 . This would
be a replacement for a 15 or 20 year old one" S.T., Portland, Maine

The Tucker ® Pole Window Washer Model 45B retails for $593.52 plus shipping and handling. Typically, this model would be shipped FedEx Saver for around $40.00, in this case.

I remember when one of the University of Illinois locations back near 2000 replaced a Model 71 unit they had in service for nearly 40 years. Tucker Poles are durable goods. When properly maintained, they will last a while, as this customer in Maine has mentioned.

New Google Reader: Keeping up with candidates in the USA

The new feature Google Reader seems to be an interesting new service from Google. Getting on the Internet today, I noticed following copy and link underneath the Google panel:
"New! Read what Barack Obama and John McCain are reading with Google
Reader
."
Interesting feature... technology is great, do I really need to order those newspapers and magazines that I do?

Using a Tucker Pole: It's good for Greenhouses too...

Yesterday, we had a community greenhouse stop by to pick up the Tucker® Pole handle sections that they had recently had reconditioned by us. They also purchased some new parts (brushes) for their Tucker Pole that they use at their greenhouse.

For years, the Tucker Pole has been a good tool for those who have greenhouses. Whether it be a commercial greenhouse or one for personal use, the Tucker Pole can help make short work of cleaning windows and other types of exterior surfaces.

Sincerely,

Robin Tucker

Web Site for Tucker Manufacturing Co., Inc. is back up

Our web site was knocked out during the Flood of 2008 that rolled through Cedar Rapids, Iowa nearly two months ago.

We were very lucky that our building didn't sustain any flood waters or sewage back up. Of course, we are on high ground, as you can see from this shot from the front of our building on Second Avenue SE.

Today, we launched an updated version of our web site.

We have plenty of enhancements to make in the coming months, but we hope you will stop by from time to time to kick the tires and learn more about the Tucker Pole and Tucker Manufacturing Co., Inc. of Cedar Rapids, Iowa USA.

Next month, Tucker Manufacturing Co., Inc. will be exhibiting at ISSAInterclean North America. Our Stand is Booth #1983 during the event scheduled for 8-11 September 2008 in Las Vegas, Nevada. If you are attending the Interclean North America this year, please stop by and see us.

Tucker Pole on Cover of Summer issue of PWC Magazine

The Summer 2008 issue of The Professional Window Cleaner just arrived this morning on my desk with a picture of the Tucker Pole on the cover. Cameron Riddell, president of J. Racenstein Co., LLC, wrote an article (pages 12-15) titled: 'Are Water-Fed Poles and Pure Systems Right for You?'

J. Racenstein Co., LLC, is a Tucker distributor with locations on the East and West Coast. Cameron speaks about the three main components of a water fed pole (WFP) system:
  • Brush
  • Pole
  • Pure water maker

The original WFP system is the Tucker Pole. We began exporting our products in the 1960's. Europe was a limited market back in the 1960's, due to the accessibility to water. Window cleaners in Southern California using the Tucker Pole in the 1980's added "spot free" water rinse, because of the availability to cost-effective pure water brought about by the development of the personal computer (PC), which used pure water in the manufacturing of PCs.

The question is a "Water-Fed Pole... Right for You" will lead to different environmental requirements in the Americas vs. Europe. The countries next to the Pacific Ocean typically hook up to a standard water faucet. In Europe, the Tucker Pole didn't really begin to enter into the market, until health and safety standards changed and customers began to accept the idea of taking water on the go.

While I was writing this blog, I received a phone call from India about our features. Our products are shipped to over 25 different countries, often through FedEx.

The PWC article left out one area of interest, which is more unique to our brand:

  • Type of Work: Above 5 stories
  • Type of Pole: High grade telescopic, but the Tucker brand can be removed (sectional)
  • Material: Aluminum (lightweight aircraft type)
  • Length of Pole: 60 feet to 83 feet (up to 25 meters)
  • Range: $615 to $890 (US$) for the model of pole
  • Weight: 26 pounds to 40 pounds (11.8 to 18.1 kg.)

We have speciality models up to 83 feet (25 meters) that have been used by institutional customers, especially in the USA, since the 1960's. From short work, using the Tucker® Junior Pole Systems to high-level work. Ultimate high-level work can be a 2-3 person operation. Otherwise, a lot of Tucker Pole work is a one person operation.

The Tucker Pole celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2007. We had a home-car washer before the Tucker Pole, which spawned the idea for a WFP, in 1957. Give us a call or e-mail, if you have any questions or comments.

IWCA - San Diego February 13-16, 2008

San Diego, CA - It was a nice Trade Show and Convention to visit with both annual attendees and newcomers to the IWCA 2008 event at the Town & Country Resort in San Diego.

Carole and I enjoyed the opportunity to visit with a variety of Tucker Pole users, prospects, distributors and industry friends.

Carole and I returned to Cedar Rapids just in time for another snow storm to hit Iowa.

While in San Diego, we even took note of winter weather, ice and snow, that closed I-8 east of San Diego. It's been a year for weather throughout the country.

Thank you for those who attended. If you missed out on the IWCA 2008 in San Diego. Well, there is always next year. The 2009 IWCA Convention and Trade Show is scheduled for Atlanta, GA. The previous trip to the same hotel was outstanding. Hope to see you in 2009!
